‘Tis the Season to be Waterblasting’

Spitwater Pressure CleaningThe end of year is rapidly approaching and now is the time to get your place ready for the entertaining season.  But before you break out your pressure cleaner to embark on the ‘been meaning to do that’ task of cleaning the patio and driveway there are a few things you need to do to keep your pump running.  These little maintenance tips will ensure that your pressure cleaner will be around for many years to come!

Tip #1 – Check your Oil

This is a must especially when your pressure cleaner has been lying dormant for 6 months.  Check the level of the oil through the dipstick or sight glass.  Make sure that the oil isn’t too discoloured either, if so drain the through the sump plug and refill with clean oil suitable for your pump.  The type of oil differs depending on the brand/style of pump you have so for the correct grade contact your supplier.  Dispose of waste oil appropriately.  If you have a petrol engine repeat the process above with the engine.

Tip#2 – Check Inlet Filters

Make sure all filters are clean of debris, if there are signs of wearing replace filter.  This will keep the pistons, valves and seals inside the pump free from scoring or cracking.  Also check the outlet of the pump and hose ends for any debris that might made its way in.

Tip#3 - Check Power Leads – Electric Machines Only

Visually inspect the power lead for signs of damage, if damaged in any way contact your supplier or licensed electrician for replacement.

Tip#4 – Check Gun and Hose

This is something that most people overlook, make sure that there are no leaks coming from the gun and hose.  A leaking gun and hose puts added wear on the machines unloader valve which inturn wears it out quicker.  Also check for any blockages in the nozzle, common syptoms of this no water coming out of the end of the gun when trigger is open or a non consistant spray pattern.
