Mention vacuum cleaners and you immediately conjure up images of old-fashion door-to-door salesmen, flogging their product to unsuspecting housewives.  The reality today is vastly different.  The humble vacuum cleaner is one of the most widely used tools in business today.  Their applications vary from being used to clean offices and shops on one side, through to the wet and dry vacuum cleaners used by tradies and workshops, to the very sophisticated, high capacity, industrial vacuum cleaners used to clear unwanted matter from industrial production machines on the other.

Spitwater offers three ranges of vacuum cleaners, suitable for a wide variety of applications: Goldline and Silverline commercial vacuum ranges as well as Delfin industrial vacuum range.

Goldline is Spitwater’s premium range of vacuum cleaners.  The range has nine different models, including dry only as well as wet/dry machines.  This Italian made range of machines is supplied standard with high quality Ametek motors as well as quality tools and accessories.  Lower end of the range models use single 1,100 Watt (max) motors whilst the top end of the range models offer both two as well as three motors, making them very high capacity machines.

Smaller models in the Goldline range are very popular for general cleaning such as offices and shops.  They are also favoured by tradies and smaller workshops because they are tough and sturdy, easy to use as well as carry around.  The medium size range uses the larger, 40 mm hose size and larger industrial type tools.  Although they are single motor machines, these cleaners offer larger capacity and are excellent for smaller warehouses as well as work sites for removal of larger quantities of waste.

The large end of the Goldline range offers four models, all with 60 L waste bins.  Two are two-motor machines using the large 40 mm hose and tool set.  The other two are genuine three-motor vacuums which use the 50 mm diameter hose and tools, a real advantage when you have to collect large volumes of waste and water. These machines are ideal for large warehouses, factories, removal of large amounts of waste from building sites, concrete slurry and similar type of cleaning – high capacity machines for really big jobs.  Both two and three motor machines offer a CBE model, a machine which has a large 60 cm outrigger at the front which is used for vacuuming very large areas quickly.

Silverline is Spitwater’s economy range of vacuum cleaners.   This range offers five models that mirror the Goldline range but at a more economic price bracket.  All five models are wet/dry machines.  Four models feature stainless steel tanks and one, a specialist water collection machine, has a poly tank and a drain ball valve.

Two smaller models feature single, 1,100 Watt motor and have 15 L and 30 L waste bin capacity, respectively.  Once again, these machines are ideal for smaller cleaning jobs from shops and offices to small warehouses and workshops.  They are tough, hard wearing machines with loads of power and capacity.

The three larger models are all high capacity machines.  Two have twin motors and one has three motors, with individual switches, giving the operator total control of the amount of vacuuming required to do the job.  All the machines use the 40 mm hose and tool set, ideal for high capacity cleaning.  The tool sets on these machines include a large 40 cm floor brush, a 40 cm squeegee, a crevice tool and a round brush.  The ‘S’ bend chrome suction pipe is also supplied.  These cleaners offer high capacity cleaning at a more economic price tag.

When it comes to true industrial vacuum cleaners, the Spitwater Delfin range really shines.  This Italian range is specialised, state of the art group of specially selected vacuum cleaners, designed for use in true industrial applications such as high volume water collection, fine dust collection using high level of filtration and continuous usage.  All machines offer all steel construction and features that make them stand out, in a class of its own. 

Some of the features found on Spitwater Delfin range include by-pass motors with individual control, option to use suction hose up to 80 mm diameter, standard pocket filters with efficiency down to 1 micron, electronic filter indicators and manual filter shakers.  Some single phase and all three phase models use a side channel blower turbine type motor which is rated for continuous use – true industrial machines!

These types of machines are used in large industrial applications such as coupling to large surface concrete grinders and also in conjunction with large production machines where fast and continuous removal of waste is required.  Once again, with these machines filtration is the key and the area of filtration is matched to the capacity of the machine.

We have a hydraulic unit to suit just about every application

Spitwater, Australia’s only true manufacturer of pressure cleaners, now offers hydraulically driven cleaners for use on trucks and farm machinery with available hydraulic capacity.

Spitwater is renowned for its range of electric and engine powered pressure cleaners, manufactured at the company’s 20,000 square metre factory at Albury.   The company has now added a line of hydraulically driven commercial quality high pressure cleaners to its impressive, locally manufactured range. 

Three standard models of hydraulically driven high pressure cleaners are offered.  They provide a cross-section of water flows and pressures to suit a host of different applications where hydraulic capacity is available. The new range offers pressures from 2100 psi (140 Bar) to 5000 psi (350 Bar) and water flows from 12 to 23 litres per minute.  Other variations are also available on request.

The heart of the hydraulically driven machines is again the Italian made, Interpump, brass head pump with ceramic pistons, ideal for our water conditions.  Nothing that touches water will corrode!  The pump is direct-coupled to one of three, quality, Cross hydraulic motors which all operate at 1450 rpm, making these serious cleaning machines!

All models are fitted with a quality unloader valve, thermal safety valve, 10 m of double wire braided R2 pressure cleaner hose, high quality RL56 (blue) gun with an in-built single lance and a nozzle protector.  The 5000 psi (350 Bar) model is also fitted with an additional safety valve.  These machines are fitted with Cross hydraulic motors which have a higher rating for longer life.  These motors do not require a case drain if the return hydraulic line pressure does not exceed 200 psi, a real feature.

“This new range of hydraulically driven pressure cleaners gives us the versatility to provide portable high water pressure cleaning solutions in some highly demanding situations, using available hydraulic capacity, at a much lower cost to the consumer,” said Milo Gajin, the Spitwater spokesman.

The SW2021 is Ideal for Industrial Environments

Spitwater Model SW2021 is a heavy-duty industrial hot water high pressure cleaner for the big cleaning jobs.  Designed and built in their Albury manufacturing plant, Spitwater Model SW2021 is truly a gem.  415 Volt, 3-phase powered, it offers users all of the benefits expected of a large industrial hot water high pressure cleaner and more.  The machine produces 21 L/min of hot or cold water at a massive 3000 psi pressure.

The heart of the machine is the brass headed pump with ceramic pistons – ideal for our water conditions.  Nothing that touches water will corrode!  The pump is direct-coupled to a 10 hp, 415 Volt, 3-phase motor which requires a 20 Amp power outlet, making this a serious cleaning machine!  The machine is manufactured in a locally made zinc-annealed and powder-coated chassis with the Spitwater trademark stainless steel cover.

Model SW2021 is fitted with a large water cooling tank.  This tank acts like a radiator in a car and is designed to allow full, 100% water by-pass in trigger-closed mode.  This is real protection for the machine from pump over-heating.  Competitive models offer a feed tank but by-pass water back, directly, to the pump head.  The Spitwater cooling tank is a genuine by-pass tank with water being drawn from and returned to it when trigger is closed and machine is operating.

To heat pressurised water, the machine is fitted with a 47 m long, ⅜ inch diameter, genuine, seamless, mild steel coil, manufactured at the Spitwater factory.  The coil is fitted to the machine in a horizontal position, allowing cleaner burning, less sooting and longer coil life.

Using chemicals, such as truck wash or degreaser with Model SW2021 is simple – machine is fitted with an adjustable chemical dispenser venturi and a 10 Litre container.

Superior Cleaning Performance Starts With Hot Water

Machine controls are very simple: machine on/off switch, burner switch, temperature regulating thermostat and detergent metering control are all located on the machine control panel.

Model SW2021 is supplied standard with 10 metres of heavy-duty, 3/8 inch diameter, high pressure hose, high quality heavy duty Vega gun with back part of lance and a dual stainless steel front part of lance with a high and low pressure valve.

Optional accessories available for this machine include longer hose lengths at 15, 20, 30 or 40 m; hose reel that mounts conveniently at the front of the machine for easier hose storage; turbo lance which will increase washing effect of the machine to 3825 psi; and a foam gun for easier and more efficient cleaning.

TRAINING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

Spitwater, Australia’s largest manufacturer and distributor of industrial and commercial pressure cleaners, industrial LPG and Diesel heaters and dryers as well as importer of heavy duty industrial and commercial vacuum cleaners is training the bush.

Over the last few months the Spitwater Travelling Road-Show has visited a number of rural centres throughout the country.  Main objective of the Spitwater Travelling Road-Show is to train people in understanding many different applications of pressure cleaners and the role that pressure cleaners play in conserving the most precious of all resources… water!  It is not a well known fact that high pressure water cleaners can reduce the amount of water used in agricultural and industrial cleaning jobs to around one third.  This means real savings in these critical climate change times.

At this year’s Ag-Quip Field days, Spitwater representatives plan to spread the water conservation message to all its customers.  “What we are doing transcends brand lines,” said Dale Provan, Spitwater Director of Training and Development, “We are about teaching our customers features and benefits of pressure cleaners and how they can help contribute towards better overall management of our water.”

Pressure cleaners are more than just implements for general cleaning.  Using them in conjunction with a wide variety of accessories and attachments available, turns them into modern, high-purpose tools that can carry out a wide variety of maintenance jobs.  It is precisely this knowledge that Spitwater is trying to pass onto its customers.

“Most pressure cleaners are supplied standard with a multipurpose lance,” continued Dale Provan, “Most such lances have a high and low pressure valve which enables pressure cleaners to apply various chemicals to speed up the cleaning process.  This in turn completes the job quicker, resulting in water and time savings.” 

Turbo Lances Save Time and Water!

Optional attachments such as Turbo or Rotomax lances also assist in the cleaning process giving the operator additional cleaning force.  Other water saving and labour saving devices are also available.  Attachments, such as Rotary Floor cleaner help cleaning flat surfaces quickly and efficiently without splashing water everywhere.  They are ideal for cleaning footpaths of town centres, particularly around food serving areas.

“And you don’t need to send dirty water down storm water drains either,” added Dale Provan, “Optional vacuuming attachments, attached to powerful wet and dry vacuum cleaners, can collect waste water and recycle it by watering council parklands or gardens – a 21^st century solution.”

Other knowledge that Spitwater is trying to pass onto its customers is that there are many uses for pressure cleaners.  Clearing blocked drains is another.  An unfortunate by-product of the drought is leaking drains, mainly cracked or broken by moisture seeking tree-roots.  A number of pressure cleaners in the Spitwater range, equipped with a variety of optional root-cutting nozzles can cut and clear tree roots from blocked drains.  Once roots are removed and the blockage cleared, pipes can be sealed again, from the inside.

Another task that pressure cleaner can carry out is rust removal.  “Clearing rust from machinery and bins for example can be a real chore,” added Dale Provan, “With a sand blasting attachment for your pressure cleaner and correct grade of blasting sand, you can remove rust and obtain the surface finish you need, ready for priming and painting, very quickly.”

Use of hot water pressure cleaners is another important issue.  People using self heating hot water pressure cleaners will generally complete their cleaning tasks in half the time it would ordinarily take the same strength cold water pressure cleaner to complete it.  This results in further savings in both water and labour time.

“Locally produced Spitwater hot water pressure cleaners have longer heating coils and larger diameter seamless pipe than the imported models,” continued Dale Provan, “This means cleaner burning, less sooting, more hot water for your energy dollar and a longer service life of the machine.”

There is no substitute for quality!  In today’s highly competitive environment where cost pressures on manufacturers are increasing and many are taking the obvious option of outsourcing their manufacturing overseas, it is good to know that one Australian manufacturer is continuing to manufacture locally, using very high quality components.

Spitwater has been using Interpump pumps ever since its establishment in Australia, 27 years ago, in 1983.  Interpump is now and has, for the last 30 years, been the world’s largest manufacturer of high pressure plunger pumps.  This is mainly as a result of their unmatched quality and price competitiveness.

It is easy to see what makes Interpump pumps reliable and long lasting.  All pumps have an aluminium die cast crankcase with an oil level window, oil drain plug for easy maintenance and a vented dipstick.  The head of the pump is made from forged brass with dual symmetrical inlet and outlet ports.  It is affixed with 8 fixing bolts to prevent possible damage caused by pressure peaks or freezing.

If we look inside, the pump has a forged crankshaft with heavy duty tapered roller bearings and oversize connecting rods in “white bronze”.  The connecting rod pins are in special, hardened steel.  The piston guides are made from stainless steel or nickel plated hardened steel.  The piston guide bushing is Teflon, graphite or bronze.  Piston bolts are stainless steel.

The business end of the pump features hardened ceramic plungers with a highly polished finish to ensure long seal life.  Oil seals are made from special compound.  Water seals are also made from special compound but are reinforced with natural cotton fibres.  Exclusive pump pressure sealing system prevents leakage and is constantly lubricated.

Inlet and outlet valve units are famous for their quietness.  They feature stainless steel valve seats and springs.  The valve caps are made from forged brass and this makes the valves very easy to service without the need to dismantle the pump’s head or plumbing. 

According to Milo Gajin, Interpump features translate to real benefits for Spitwater owners:

When looking at our operations in general, we all nearly always focus on machines and attachments that we use on daily basis, to earn our income.  In doing this, we sometimes overlook products and services which we use for maintenance of our very expensive machinery.

If we think about it, the one thing that should never be overlooked is maintenance.  Maybe it is just my view but when you have a machine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, millions in a lot of cases, why would you skimp on the basic fundamentals that keep you working?  Successful companies look at their maintenance as a valuable investment.  To them, like is should be to all of us, reliability is of utmost importance and can be the basic difference between success and failure.  I guess what I am saying is that you have to use the right tools for the job. We all know that anyway, right?

You would be hard pressed to find a company which manufactures or distributes or transports or repairs that doesn’t own a pressure cleaner.  The questions is, which pressure cleaner is the right one for the job?  Petrol or electric?  Hot or cold water?  Fast or slow speed pump? The list goes on.

The machine we looked at this time is the Spitwater Model HC15250P – a surprisingly powerful machine in a compact and easy to use package.  It offers a flow of 15 L/min with the pressure of 250 Bar, 3650 psi in the old money.

When considering the right machine to use for the application, there are many different factors that need to be considered and they are all equally important.  This particular model boasts a 9 hp Honda GX270 engine. The GX series engines are the industrial range or the ‘red’ Hondas and you can see this just by looking at them.  They are a full metal engine and are ridiculously easy to service – they simply last forever.  The other advantage of the Honda engine that there are literally hundreds of Honda service centres around the country so parts and warranty repairs are never a problem.  And have I mentioned this, Honda GX engines now offer a 3-year warranty!  That is real belief in your product!

Spitwater use sturdy steel frames that are zinc-annealed and powder-coated in their signature red paint.  The frame is really well thought-out with two wheels for easy maneuverability, a folding handle for easier storage and transport, as well as integrated space for the 5 Litre detergent injection tank, rest for the gun and lance and an area to wind the hose around.

The business end and the important part of any pressure cleaner is the pump. Spitwater use Interpump pumps.  They are Italian made and are really a serious pump!  Interpump is the largest manufacturer of high pressure pumps in the world and their pumps are reputedly the most technologically advanced pumps available.

The alloy pump casing is very sturdy with a solid brass head.  When you open one of the pumps up, not that you ever should, you’ll see smooth, hardened, ceramic pistons and heavy duty seals. In the head, the valve seats are stainless steel which not many other pumps can claim.  This model features an in-built unloader valve and an added safeguard of a thermal dump valve, protecting the pump from overheating.  A lot of machines don’t use these but it is something I would insist on. 

The machine is supplied standard with a larger, 8-metre long, 3/8 inch diameter, double wire braided hose which is another mandatory accessory in an industrial application. The gun had a nice soft trigger so it would be easy to use for extended periods of time.

The stainless steel lance supplied is strong and the Multireg nozzle at the end of the lance is easy to adjust.  The Multireg nozzle offers high and low pressure mode for detergent application and allows adjustment of cleaning width.

All in all, with the combination of the Honda GX engine, the brass head Interpump and the double wire braid hose, this is a top end machine and perfect for washing down machinery on-site. Another bonus is that you don’t even need mains pressure – as long as you have water it can be used anywhere…  If water supply is a problem, this pressure cleaner will suck water straight out of tanks…

Longer hose as well as a full range of easy to use accessories such as turbo lances, foaming guns and other attachments that make ones life easier are available as an optional extra.
